Rant: EBAY BECOMES A FASCIST STATE WITH CHANGES RENDERING SELLERS DEFENSELESS
New feedback ratings systems are a complete and utter failure to protect sellers as well as buyers on auction site
By MILO NEXT, Contributing Writer
Published 5/21/2008
So eBay has started its new policies on feedback and how buyers and sellers can create a safe harbor of checks and balances. This new system cripples sellers and lets any buyer (be they honest or wacko) leave negative feedback for any reason they see fit without worry of any kind of reprisal. Sellers no longer have the ability to leave negative or even neutral feedback against buyers, no matter how the transaction goes from the seller’s point of view.

Sorry for you guys, but as a buyer I have paid, then waited, waited and waited some more. Every excuse in the book--"we had floods in Ohio",yes I know, but let the buyer know, or I sent it out, but the post office lost it, you are so lucky I insured it.......now its 4 1/2 weeks later, and all I hear is "you'll just have to wait til the insurance claim is....................

I was a powerseller for 4 years selling a total of $10000 a month all through ebay, on friday the 13th I get a call telling me I'm suspended without reason, my wife and I effectively become unemployed overnight and no one apparently cares, 3 weeks down the line I am happy we were forced out, ebay is a nasty crapper of fake goods and nasty new buyer wielding the power of neg feedback with no comeback, ebays actions have forced us to get our own brickS and mortar store and website and we have never been happier. I hope ebay crashes and burns along with paypal, thanks for giving me the push I needed though you corporate pigs.

The previous eBay system worked partially because there was a complimentary and reciprocal communication at the end of an auction. Ebay management has taken that away with the new feedback policy changes. Now there is a much more combative and cautious atmosphere. Until this is changed there will be member mistrust and anger. The attempt to monopolize payment methods contributes deeper resentment. Management has tainted the waters and business potential suffers.
Its getting harder to find the rose among the thorns here at eBay. Sellers are hypnotized with one hand and fleeced with the other.
A Venus Flytrap. Pandoras box.
Shes a beautiful horse but it dumps us in the drink when the show starts.
Its race car that suddenly goes backwards and the door wont close.
eBay is a cute new puppy that poos before you can get the leash on.
Its a beautiful museum that has been looted and the door is always left open.
Member protections, safety and security should be the reins that keep the cart to the horse.
Will it be a great warehouse that holds only promise?

Ebay needs to be investigated. If they are allowing items from Buy.com (which they are in partnership with) to list for free or at a huge price reduction this is unfair competition. Not telling the buyers that a neutral rating against seller is a negative - is "omission" of the truth and unfair advertising. I also think that they have been playing with the search for a long time with rolling blackouts on sellers with lower feedback rating. I have been selling for 9 years and suddenly, when most of my sales were to New York, they are now Oklahoma. Out of the blue you just start selling everything to one USA region. They have done this for some time now. A GOVENMENT AGENCY NEEDS TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Not allowing sellers to give Honest feedback is more omission of the truth as now the sellers are looking at FALSE FEEDBACK OF Buyers. The entire dashboard system is a smoke screen to allow the buyers to do ebay's dirty work. We need to PRINT what we see that is wrong. Print feedback before it pulls and then print that it was pulled. Print the sellers who it appears obvious it is ebay padding - get it down on paper and then turn into the Federal Trade Commission or any other agency.

Long live eBay's anti-community policies!!! The more money they earn the more retarded people they hire to come up with "wonderful" new ideas. The new Feedback system is just one of them. What is the best way to punish eBay??? Probably starting to buy from everybody on eBay and not paying anyone. In one way or another things should end in a total mess before you are suspended by their suspension-manager (probably also retarded).

Meh. The buyers finally have the upper hand. I am sick of winning an auction and paying immediately, only to have the seller wait until I leave them feedback before they leave mine. My part of the deal is over. And you got paid within minutes of the auction ending. So why wait? To make sure I don't leave bad feedback for you? And then when something does go wrong, when a seller takes 1 1/2 weeks to ship my item because (in their own words) they were just too busy to get to the post office...then I am hesitant to leave even nuetral feedback because the feedback left for me is being held hostage. And now sellers are equating this new policy to legalized murder. What a bunch of tools. So stop selling on ebay. QQ moar...QQ moar.....what a bunch of babies. The good news, I just saw a commercial where a toddler bought stock online, so you can all do that.

I have been scammed more times than not from buyers even before these changes took affect. I have had used christening gowns sent back to me and have had to since refuse returns,I have had a sellers buy the item, pay for it, then once they are notified it is shipped, they file a claim and take back their money saying their was an unauthorized purchase. That low life did this to a single mother trying to sell off household items to support her family too. She did not get her items or her money back!! Since the feedback change has come into affect, I have already had two loosers decide they were going to screw me because they basically could. This is money that I need to live!! I am forced with either filing a dispute to get my fees back and not being able to warn others, or letting it go and loosing even more money. I am in the process of trying to leave ebay all together, by opening my own boutique website. Please support those of us who have chosen to leave and visit my boutique at www.sunshineandbutterflies.com
Thanks!!

This crap can be expected from overpaid eBay execs with their head stuck up their worthless azzholes. Sellers who are screwed will start relying on harassment techniques to extract a measure of street justice upon receiving unwarranted feedback. Sellers will always have the name and address of any scammers or negative button happy bums, and in many cases will be able to obtain their phone number. A surname search will also reveal relatives of these bastard buyers who can be harassed. Every seller should have a few bogus buyer ID's for making purchases from any SOB buyer who also has items listed for sale.
Smart sellers use registration information which creates a wall. My registered ePuke information is a dead end POBox and defunct cell phone number. I also keep an untraceable prepaid cell phone, with an out of state phone number, for harassment purposes.

I got scammed the 1st day the new FB system started running.
Item sold for almost 2 months, buyer filed chargeback with paypal. My money is gone! Now, I cannot do anything. I got the neg. feedback for no reason PLUS loss my $$ through chargebacks. This person cannot wait to see the feedback changes. So, he/she can come out to scam people without any fear. Ebay's new FB system is encouraging scammers to steal from honest sellers. Remember, sellers pay the fees! I am sure there will be much less sellers out there in just 3 months.
BTW, you have to keep your FB score to over 98% to keep your powerseller status. Soon, there will be no powersellers!
Ebay just did the most stupid decision ever!!!
Why fix a system when it's no need to be fixed?Use our, sellers', money to hire people to kill sellers... this does not make any sense to me....

I feel violated by ebay - as a powerseller, my wife and I have made thousands for them in bloated fees, both on ebay and paypal. Our respectable 99.7% with 7000+ FB dropped 1% today due to neutrals. All that hard work gone. The dog has bitten the hand that feeds it, and the hand is now gesturing the bird.
The whole neutral is now equal to negative thing kills me; plus and the fact that the only negatives we have gotten were from psychos or newbies - you know the type. And what's with the only positive feedback deal - so much for mutual rating.
Time to find an alternative to eBay - Anyone who can achieve powerseller status on eBay has the skills and means to be successful on some other online venue - just need to break the routine and take action.

Isn't this censorship? Why should I be forced to leave POSITIVE feedback only? What if the transaction wasn't a positive experience for me? Why am I being shunned from telling the truth? Do buyers deserve positive feedback when they don't read the description and demand a partial refund? Do buyers deserve positive feedback if they pay late? What about irrational buyers that leave sellers negative feedback for no reason at all? Ebay really needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. As a powerseller, I will no longer risk my reputation without having the ability to respond to a buyer's commentary in my own way: positive, neutral or NEGATIVE.

My formula for neutral/negative feedback to sellers. BUYERS PAY ATTENTION:
this*is*fun (0 ) View Listings | Report
Since the feedback change my new totals are.
Handed out 41 negatives, 22 neutrals and 16 positives.
This is my formula now and I suggest other buyers use it too.
Ship late(Past 2 days)= receive neutral feedback.
Ship late(Past 3 days)= receive negative feedback.
Receive item past 5 days= neutral feedback.
Receive item past 7 days= ALWAYS negative feedback.
Have inflated shipping prices= ALWAYS negative feedback.
Answer email within 6 hours: No problem
Answer email within 12 hours to 24 hours: Neutral feedback.
Answer email past 24 hours: ALWAYS negative feedback.
Receive item not as described= negative feedback.
And last but prolly not least: Fail to post positive feedback to a paying buyer ALWAYS results in a seller receiving negative feedback.

With these new changes not only will we NOT sell anymore but we are in the process of building our own website. We had 100% positive feedback but that got lowered to 99.3 because of neutrals received from international buyers who blames ME for slow shipping times of their country, namely Italy, Latvia, Russia and Canada. Buyers bought from us because they trusted us because of Our 100% score, now with 99.3 who the hell wants to buy from a seller with that low score. Especially as most buyers think it is the result of negs

Thank you for your article. You're right eBay has become like a Fascist or Soviet era totalitarian state! On the first day of new fb system, I was leaving 5-star feedback for 2 positive transactions and felt like eBay was prompting me to leave negative fb or comments! I received that same message FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES while leaving just 2 fb. After the pop-up, you get the same message a second time on the regular page--it's in a narrow rectangular box with one of those warning flag icons if you know what I mean. Then as I was leaving the 2 individual fb, I was shown the message a 3rd and 4th time. If this isn't overkill I don't know what is!
Oh, and I forgot to mention when I signed into eBay the welcome page (if it can be called that anymore)had the same message, so that makes FIVE TIMES!
I'm just a buyer, but I have to ask Why does eBay hate its sellers? I was sorry to see two of my sellers lose their 100% rating today because of old neutrals. eBay is destroying itself, sellers will go elsewhere and we buyers will follow and google and find them. THANK YOU to the previous posters who posted the same of other sites I can check out.
This is a sad and sorry time in the history of eBay.

We thought we would celebrate 10 years on Ebay, the feedback changes were looming and we were prepared for that though not at all happy, the new Paypal insanity with 21++ day holds as half of our customers are International was our cue to exit and join the mass exodus of sellers this week as our last auctions closed. After 10 years of loyal service and hundreds of thousands of dollars from our account alone to Ebay they are losing BIG TIME add this to the many small and big sellers and this will add up and I will be cheering on to see that "bloated monster" that is Ebay tumble to its knees I feel bad for the stockholders I would not want to own any shares I say SELL and move on as so many are doing or you will find yourselves in the same situation all too many Bear Stearns holders did... To add insult to injury after almost 10 years of service with a good standing and NO problems Ebay suspended our account the day of feedback changes noting that we had fallen into the "bottom 1 percent of sellers on Ebay" how the hell does that happen?? By the way they suspended us from listing on Ebay BUT NOT FROM BUYING oh and they noted "Please be advised that this account restriction does not relieve you of your obligation to pay any fees that you may owe to eBay." In other words you are screwed but don't forget to pay........ I had to laugh out loud there will be no more tears or $$$$ from us. Thank you Ebay for showing your true face we can move on now I would rather be poor or work for someone I don't like which ironically would be better than giving you money and selling on what WAS the greatest marketplace on earth. The well planned changes were implemented and timed to coincide with the down turn in the market. These changes were & have been ALL smoke & mirrors to cover up a much larger issue with this company & internet site. Why is no one paying attention around the world regarding what we discovered back during the first Boycott week of Feb 18th-08. Yes we uncovered major SEC FRAUD going on within the eBay core site to the tune of 400,000+ fake/frau sdc_ listings which we happened upon by sheer accident & recorded most if not ALL of them.
As soon as they discovered us uncovering them they quickly started to yank them from the site. These were & are still within the site & add to the medved charts for counts to the stockholders. Also we have on a regular basis been keeping track of the hundreds of thousands of fake carbon copied listings they are currently still using to pad those count numbers to keep their stock prices up. WHY?
If our first & second Boycott (May1-08) has had NO effect on the numbers then why pad the site with fakes? They have systematically torn this community apart by sheer DISTRACTION with all their bogus changes on the FB issue as well as the PP 21 day holds, cancelling live auctions, banning digital downloads, several changes to many of the catagories on the whole.
The Aussie & UK sites are being forced to use a PP only form of pay. The Best Match is a tool to drive the old & new buyers to where eBay ONLY wants them to go, which is to their favorite retailers. The ones who can handle the heat of the changes, who can take care of the refunds for whatever reasoning a scam buyer could come up with, and have their own 800#s to handle complaints from those same buyers.
ALL info we initally got was turned over to the Feds & SEC for investigation. The company initially stated back in Feb that it was only a GLITCH/TEST that had run its course, then 2 days later stated in an announcement to Auctionbytes & mm magazine that the site was HACKED & T&S was handling it! ALL HORSEHOCKEY!
If this was the case tyhen why didn't they SHUT DOWN THE SITE in its entirety to go thru ALL the bot programs to find the hacker? Why did they and why are they allowing EVERY REGISTERED PERSON both Buyer & Seller alike to have their identities compromised by allowing such actions to go on?
And the PP thing is so eBay can make sure they get their money out of everyone both coming in & going out. Why is the world news NOT checking into this? Why arte they not doing their own investigations into this? This is another ENRON and those of us who have been keeping track within the system have had the proof for quite sometime.
Oh and just a footnote here: We are NOT Powersellers who uncovered this mess of smoke & mirrors. We're just the "little guys" who use the site to try & make ends meet, keep food on our tables for our families, help to pay for insurances, keep a roof over our heads; and some just because it WAS fun @ one time. But sadly is no longer.
