Hugh Jackman bears his claws as Wolverine in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND
:
Exclusive Interview: AVI ARAD TALKS X-MEN 4 POSSIBILITES, PLUS WOLVERINE & MAGNETO SPIN-OFFS
The future of X-MEN is in his hands
By SEAN ELLIOTT, Associate Editor
Published 5/31/2006
LOCATION:The executive boardroom iF MAGAZINE: After the success of X-MEN: THE LAST STAND is WOLVERINE the movie going to be a sequel or a prequel? AVI ARAD: I don’t want to call it a prequel nor a sequel. It is Wolverine’s story and it is really concentrating on him. It’s about his life, his mysteries, and his loves. It’s not really a prequel or a sequel. It’s just a story like in the comics where we have X-Men, Wolverine, and books dealing with the other X-Men. Obviously, Wolverine is the number one X-man, and deserves his own story. Hugh Jackman will make the story that much more compelling. iF: Are you still planning a Magneto Movie? ARAD: Starting with a younger version. It’s the story of Magneto’s life, and it will span some years. iF: What are the chances of you and 20th Century Fox agreeing to do another X-MEN film? ARAD: There’s always a chance of an X-MEN sequel. It’s more of an issue of what is the next X-Men story, and when to do it. The X-Men universe is forever and ever, and it’s the number one comic book. There are an endless amount of stories and great sagas that can go into the future, the past, and the present. There are so many more characters that we didn’t deal with yet. It’s such a rich world. I would not preclude anything. iF: Are the characters that “died” in LAST STAND really dead? ARAD: You heard what was said in the classroom right? How things were explained to the students, what’s possible. When you look at the way these people materialize when the Phoenix erupts, just reverse it and who knows? iF: Was there anything cut from the film that will be on DVD? ARAD: We didn’t cut anything for time, but we had things that we did specifically for the DVD. There are always choices, and lots of coverage. When you shoot a movie like that, there are a lot of choices to make and certainly some of it will end up on the DVD. iF: So there will be an extended edition DVD with added scenes then? ARAD: Absolutely. iF: What was the original script that you started with like? ARAD: The original script was more or less what we shot. Most of the scenes and the direction dealing with the cure and Dark Phoenix were all in there. The bridge scene was the first scene we plucked from a panel in the comics. These kinds of scripts are written with a lot of outlines, so it always starts with a big idea. The basic idea and characters were all done up front.

In my personal opinion I found that they took Professor X and Cyclops out way too soon. It seemed that Cyclops had a story to tell but never had the chance to have his turn. For people who haven’t read the books or have seen the TV series are lost in the dark with the full results of Cyclops’ full power. From the movies so far we learn very little of what he can do. We know that he has an undesiring love for Jean and he feels that his territory is being invaded by Wolverine. He also has laser eyes and was first a pointed the job to run the school. We don’t know about his background or his true loyalty. Storm we’ve heard he voice her opinion in X2 and X3. Jean, Wolverine, Rogue, Bobby, Jean, Professor X and Magneto have also had their part to voice an opinion. Cyclops is more of the Quiet Guy who just does his part with no questions asked.
The movie wasn’t so much as horrible, more like a lot of new characters being brought in all at once with no great reasoning behind them that explains more than a small short sentence. Ie Breast- for his wings and his father wanted him to be normal. Juggie- his strenght and hard head. Kate- going threw walls.
X 3 did leave some key parts to the next movie, such as the “cure” isn’t permanent b/c magneto can still slightly move metal. That unconscience guy that was mentioned earlier when the cure was broadcasted over the TV, was probably a foreshadowing that professor X is still alive but with no memory. Cyclops just hadn’t turned up yet but he can’t be dead. He was one of the key components to the first two movies.

Yes, I am lame for just finding this. I would like the X-Men series to end on a higher note, so there should definitely be a 4th. Sadly, the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix story is one of my favorites but I was not impressed. The story also NEEDS Gambit (my favorite character) and could definitely use Havok. But I am glad they didn't have Channing Tatum play Gambit.

x-men 3 sucked bad it had corny dialogue no story no charater development all it was was fx and action nothing more, Bryan Singer David Hayter Brett Ratner Lauren Donner have said a million times Gambit won,t be in the films he is to much like Wolverine, Logan loves Jean my ass he is in lust with Jean not love in 1 and 2 there was an underlineing love between Logan and Rogue even David Hayter has said in x-2 it was a Logan/Rogue/Bobby love triangle, the only thing x-3 did right was the Bobby/Kitty romance other than that Kinberg Ratner Penn fucked the x-men franchise bad i pray if there is an x-4 Singer or Hayter return cause x-3 was horrable.

I was seriously upset that Gambit was so far not been included into the movie! I WANT TO SEE ROGUE AS HER SUPER STRENGTH & FLYING ABILITY! I admired her when I was a child, she had such a great attitude! I loved her and Gambit! I admired his charms (especially to Rogue) and his humor. I want to see those red eyes of his! and Rogue showing off more sexiness! haha, well what can I say! You have to put the story seriously with the comic! Iceman is starting to annoy the hell out of me being with Rogue! Time for Gambit!!! I hope to see Jubilee, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, and Psylocke.

We need an X-Men movie...that correct an X-men movie because the first 3 movies in my book is not an X-men movie but, Wolverine movies. I totally think the Last Stand sucks. Its always about Wolverine, Wolverine, Wolverine...I started hating him because the movies focused on him all the time. They turned Cyclops into a supporting character...hello, first of all he is the first X-men, 2nd of all he is the Field Leader. 20th Century fox totally disrespected the character Cyclops. I heard that they are thinking of creating an Emma Frost Movie...I do hope that they show that Emma Frost rescued Cyclops from being disintegrated. Then on the X-4 movie they need to focus more on Cyclops, Emma Frost, the reincarnation of Phoenix and additions of more X-Men, like Gambit, return of Nightcrawler, Rogue getting strength and flight, and Psylocke joining the X-Men. I am totally pissed off and disappointed on how they turned the X-Men into a Wolverine movie franchise...its totally crap. Also, in the Last Stand Phoenix was disintegrating Wolverine but, has no effect on him...bull. Wolverine has healing powers not regeneration...Wolverine is not immortal, its like throwing Wolverine in the sun and not getting burned. In the Marvel Universe, If you take off Cyclops' shades/goggles his optic blast is almost as strong as the sun so if he hits Wolverine he would have obliterated him and his healing powers won't work. I just hope that if they do make an X-MEN movie they would base it more on the comics and cartoons.

theres one thing ive seen on here that screams for the makers of the x films attention, and that is MORE NIGHTCRAWLER and i couldnt agree more, he was the best part of 2 and they could have gotten a just as good actor to play him, insted of that poo staber alan cumming, i mean he said he didnt want to do it cause the make up , well tough luck faggot, you knew what the job was, fuck, i need to be in charge of these things, they should have brought rya park back to play him he could have done it just as well ,and he would have dont good stunts, and he wouldnt have cried about it afterwards

I think there should definately be an x men 4 and the mutants who got cured could get their powers back, and mystique and magneto could make a brand new brotherhood and take revenge on the humans for shooting them with the cure. Jean Grey could come back as phoenix again and learn to control it and psylocke should definately come back but join the x men. NIGHTCRAWLER SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN X3, so if they make an X4 nightcrawler has to be in it and i really want jubilee or dazzler or marrow to be in the next one. rogue should get her powers back aswell as strength and flight. Their is so much more story that they could probably make like 10 other x men movies. i really likedn X3 by the way, im so glad they extended the Storm role because Halle Berry plays her well and i also like the special effects for her weather power. PLEASE MAKE AN X4.

X-men 4 can be really cool. Gambit should be in it as an X-man and Rogue's new boyfriend, Nightcrawler returns and learns that Mystique is his mother, Cyclops resurrected should have a larger part in the movie and flies the X-jet instead of Storm, Jean Grey resurrected and controling the Phoenix, Angel wears an X-men uniform, the X-men(Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, Beast, Gambit, Iceman, Jean,Shadowcat,Colossus) including Jubliee battling the Sentinels,Apocalypse or Cyclops's enemy Sinster and his allies, Rogue flies and get super strength, Iceman turns to ice and get his ice slide, Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, and Beast kick butt, Shadowcat become Iceman's new girlfriend, Professor X resurrected and using Cerebro.

And they Havent asked Cudmore back so if they don't get Cudmore back as Colossus then I won't waist my money on X4.

I thought the movie was great, jus because i am a huge X-Men fan, but i did have a few complaints, you know the first two movies were way longer then this one and had the characters storylines drawn out longer then what they did in X3. I am really bumbed that Byran Singer didn't make this last one cause he made the other two really good given the fact that jubilee should haved replaced rouge in those two. That was the only complaint i had in the first two, but for this one i was really glad to see them progress the Jean Grey/Pheonix character into what it was in X3. It was sad to see Professor X die so quickly but you have to admit the way they did the special affects was freakin awesome. Him pissing her off and she goes crazy on him...lol but anyway i jus can't wait to see X4 maybe Bryan Singer will be back to do it cause he won't be doin superman returns II until 2009, so he will have some time to do X4 and they can kick Brett Ratterd(Ratner)..lol to the curb...maybe he can convince Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker to stop bickering and do Rush Hour 3 which will probly suck....but back to xmen...they better make the spin offs as close as the comics as they can without it being too unrealistic...and show magneto's kids and show the whole crazy story of wolverines crazy past. So you directers and company execs, if u want to make a good movie....try reading these kind of things maybe you can portray the story right by listening to true fans of the comics and not the big wigs that give you your checks because without us the fans u don't get the big checks so do right by us first....before u make a crappy movie based on what a guy in a suit behind a desk says...(oh...ASK THE MAN IN CHARGE OF ALL THIS STAN LEE...GEEZE..LOL...HE COULD MAKE A GREAT MOVIE...JUST WHATS IN HIS HEAD...

the movie was good but come on can you seriously tell me what the hold up on gambit is it cant be that hard to put him in the movie. i think theyre should be an X-men 4 and forget the spin-offs. The next movie should be based on the whole sentinel story and maybe put the mutant morph in the story and BRING BACK NIGHTCRAWLER and put GAMBIT in the movie that is what is lacking it was a good movie but those little parts would make an awesome movie

X3 was GREAT, I was wondering if Colossus had better part and when was Iceman actually gonna become ICE. But a couple of ideas would be of course: Bring in Gambit, Maybe a Apocalsype Saga, If not him MAKE A HUGE MARVEL MOVIE OR MOVIE WITH ALL THE ORIGINAL ACTORS FROM THE MOVIES (SPIDER-MAN: TOBY MIGURE, HULK: ERIC BANA, ETC.) ABOUT THE ONSLAUGHT SAGA, Rogue gets ALL her powers, and Wolverine finally gets involved with Mystique & Nick Fury. And on a MARVEL note, cross over movies. Like we all know The Fantastic Four helped Spidey fight Venom & Carnage, X-Men & Spidey has A history also from way back into Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. I mean alot of Marvel super-heros stay in New York.

P.S.-Remember everybody that Bret Ratner did not write the script, and don't be too hard on Bret. Its his first x-men film, he'll get better for the next films. You learn in filmmaking as you go. You get better at it, and I say give the man a chance. It was a good film. It had its problems, but so does every movie. I have two degrees in filmmaking, and I just finished my first full length feature film, and let me tell you its a hard job. You absolutely have to love what you are doin. Also, the dvd will be longer I have read. I'm hoping that a scene that One of my friends saw at a screening will be put at least on the deleted scenes. In which Iceman does his ice slide. The filmmakers said that it was too cheesy and took it out, but it sure would be worth a look.

I thought it was good. I have been reading X-men comics since 1977, and a fan before I could read the books. I recieved my first x-men comic book from my mother in 1974. She read doctor strange and ghost rider, can you believe it. I had some problems with it but I realize that there were some things that would not play well onscreen. Did anybody understand about the Jean Grey/Phoenix and wolverine sceen at the end? It wasn't that she was so powerful that she could incenerate Wolverine, or he could not get to her or use her pyschic blast to stop him. That had nothing to do with whether it was believable or not. She was not killing him instantly because she was helping him get to that point. She wanted him to get to her and end her misery. Also, she has feelings for the man. Remember Her, Scott, and Logan/Wolverine are in a love triangle. These are the reasons that he still lives. These feelings are in every version of the x-men universe. Also in the versions of the x-men I have read and watched on the cartoons,Including the new civil war books out now Wolverine can regenerate from nothing. He was incernarated by the guy who killed speedball from the new warriors, and that whole school full of kids, which cases the civil war, and all that was left of wolverine was a little bit of muscle, some blood, and his skeleton. He regenerated all the way back to a full body. So understand if Jean tore him to nothing but a skeleton, or a speck of blood, he would return. So the way they did it was correct. Also, Psylock is not a new character as the nice gentlemen said earlier that they made up two characters. Her name is Betsy Braddock, and english woman who eventually transfers her mind and soul or has it transferred to an Asian woman's body. The movies are good movies, just enjoy them. My favorite x-man is Colossus, and has been since his first appearance, and I understand that he had to make way for other Characters in this movie. I would have loved to see him and Juggernaunt fight it out like in the comics, and cartoons. But I realize he will get his chance to be showcased as will other mutants in the future. I am a filmmaker with two film degrees, and I understand you can't please everyone out of the gate everytime. Everyone just understand that your favorite mutants and storylines will be done in the future. Plus, don't be too literal that the movies vere off from the books, it'll work out in the end. The x-men will be made into movies and stories until the end of the earth so be cool, you'll all get what you want eventually. And lastly, I do agree with you all that Apocolypse or En'saba nuur should be the next next Villian. Wouldn't that be cool!!

2 b honest dis is d most emotional x-men film ever!!!
i was so bummed about d 3 main characters dying. like prof. x, cyclops, (who was the leader of the x-men!) and of course
jean grey. i mean 4 those who saw d movie, jean was just possessed by d phoenix, so she wasn't intentionally supposed 2 die!!! and i was also shocked that it was logan who killed her, they could hav just gven jean the cure instead of stabbing her 2 death!!! it would hav been a lot better if none of d main characters died. but, there's still a posibility of seeing them again in another sequel of dis film after all it's x-men!!! i hope, we see a lot more of Famke Janssen playing d role of jean grey on d following sequels cause she's actually been killed of twice already!!! all in all, it was still a great movie!!!more power for x4!!!!!!!!!

I thought X3 was overall a good movie but needed more time for improvements. I thought the action was great but the script was lacking and contained too many one liners. Also, X3 could have been a little more realistic w parts like the 300 on 5 fight. I thought the last 5 min and after credits were the best part of the movie. As for X4 i would love to see a combination of Singers development abilites Ratners action sequences... and everyone is used to wolverine now so to make even more money add the much anticipated gambit. Lastly i think the movies can afford to be at least 2 hrs.

I have enjoyed all three X-Men films. My biggest complaint is the treatment of Cyclops. He is to my knowledge the first mutant to be recruited by Xavier or was it Jean Grey? Whatever the case, I totally get the fact that Wolverine is the MAN in the world of X-Men. If X4 is going to come full circle with the Sentinels involvement then the X-Men are going to need Cyclops's optic blasts. Bring back Nightcrawler, more Collossus, where the hell is Gambit? I thought you would have had a shot of the original five X-Men on screen together as a nice treat for us old schoolers. Without question X-Men is the top dog in sci-fi/adventure films. You guys know the fans want more. SO GIVE US MORE.

For years, we the fans have waited to see Rogue gain the powers of the character Miss Marvel in the "X-Men" movies and so far, it hasn't happened. Rogue is best known to fans from the 1990s cartoon and comic stint when she had the powers of flight, invulnerability and super-strength of the Avenger Miss Marvel. In the movies, however, we have not seen her get those abilities yet. Rogue has barely been in action sequences in the current movies and has been only a supporting role. We the fans would like to see Rogue as a lead character this time in the fourth "X-Men" movie, giving her more screen time and we would like to see her other powers somehow introduced to her in a manner that keeps with the "real world" tone of the previous X-Men movies. If there is an "X-Men 4", we would like to finally see Rogue fly and fight on the silver screen.
She did not even behave in this movie like the Rogue of the previous two episodes!! No continuity from this point of view in my opinion. This was the biggest mistake!

Kk first of all i would like to say if your going to have that many newly introduced x-men and new members of the brother hood dont make Mystiqe the big character leave at about half an hour into the movie. Don't make Juggernaut hit a wall and die, make Callisto die. My gosh, she leades a group of about 85 people and is an alie of Magneto don't make her die. Pyro, I'm surpirsed that he never fell off the bridge and died. Now to the X-men, this is probly what the writers said, "ok i will close my eyes and then out of the hat i will pick the x-men that will die. Ok now for my great trick Cyclops will die 20 minutes into the movie" Maybe Callisto could of just left the movie and we would of been happier. Oh yeah and Jean Grey, the second movie she had it coming at the beginning. I know at Alkali lake she was going to die and come back in the third. Oh yeah and KILL THE PROFFESER!!! "just ok your dead now" seane. I mean yeah he died my gosh the biggest character and now we go to point a to point b to point c and see what happens. Kk the only death that made sense was Jean Grey. Next movie shes probably just going to walk into the mansion and say oops those people are dead because I was the stupid character in the 3rd movie becuase the writers had no point to the movie, oops now can we kill off another 5 people.. Next time x-men... HAVE A POINT...

WHY DID YOU KILL PSYLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and finally I wouldn't have minded seeing Storm and Phoenix fighting if only small to have someone take over. I also have a few suggestions for X4(who did you think you fooling?) dew to the end of X3, Magneto will regain his powers but will try take mutants away from Earth. this is part an X-men story, which I have forgotten the name. This bring out the mass production of sentinals, the adamantium being removed from Wolverine and other thiings. I know you can't take suggestions because of legal actions but just know that the fans have your back and not to sound to demanding but try to put out 5 X-men movies counting the 3 already out. and oh yeah please bring back Nightcrawler and Psylock and don't forget Gambit

Like has been said many times before this, the storyline was choppy. Patrick Stewart should not have been 'killed' off so soon into the movie, and in X-4 ((x3 made money, you know its coming)) they should start to follow the books just enough to make him come back to life - his mind possessing the body of another.
Overall, i thought it was good, GREAT acting, bad storyline. X4 needs to wrap some of the loose ends up and then, once it gets THAT done, start up the story line for the next several movies for the saga.
thats about all i have to say,
peace out.

I don't know man. It was almost like seeing The Empire Strikes Back, and then seeing Phantom Menace, but not quite as painful. It was a great action movie but the character involvment and that made the first 2 X-Men movies just wasn't there. Reading the posts of people who think this was a fantastic movie are the drone type. Throw them a big Hollywood action film and they eat it up. "Awe man that was awesome!" People like that wouldn't know a truly great movie if it jumped up and bit them on the face. Ratner had more than enough time. At least from what he said. The script was already written but other than that from what I understand he wasn't behind in shooting. So no, more time wouldn't have helped.
I am very glad they decided not to chose him for the 1st X-Men, or the new Superman movie. Don't get me wrong. Like I said the action was great, the costuming was great, the effects were great, but it was too superficial of a movie compared to the first 2. Not to mention it hardly lived up to the title. The ending was great though. (Fanboy time)Although the effects on Logan were a little inconsistant. On one hand you've got people instantainiously blowing up into a billion pieces. Then you've got logan losing some skin here, a half a pound of muscle there. Oh, I saw his sternum. Even with his amaizing healing factor he would have been losing allot more flesh than that. In "actuality" that would have killed Logan. If all of the flesh on his body did what it was doing on everyone else(BLOWING UP INTO A BILLION PIECES), his healing factor could not keep up with all of the tissue loss. Of course they couldn't do that, but all I'm saying on that is they should have done it a little more extreme.
Juggernaut is Xaviers step brother and they didn't even so much as look at each other. Juggernaut is not a mutant so that little trick Kitty pulled on him knocking him out could not have happened. You've got 2 of the top 7 strongest guys in the Marvel Universe (J&C) and they don't even fight. I mean hell you're making a movie with almost nothing but action in it, you've got two super titans, and you don't even have them throw down?!!! Am I missing something there? We all did.
Mr. Porcupine wasn't "Quills" he was supposed to be a mutant named Kid Omega starter of "The Omegas") who was actually a super intillect, and from a drug over dose (kick)changed his brain into faster than light energy that allowed him to have telepathic contact with everyone on the planet simultaneously, and was not a human pin coushin. A great job on The Spike shooting bone spurs into wolvie though while. Onto Callitso. She has enhanced reflexes, senses and coordination, making her a super human fighter not super fast like Quicksilver or Flash. Where's the eyepatch? It's really like they made up two mutants and then gave them names to ones that already existed. Hey I know it was a movie based on the X-Men, but they got all the characters right so far. Or al least they didn't drastically change them like they did with a number of characters in X-3.

You'd think he'd have a better plan than "Charge!" He lifted the Golden Gate bridge. Why have a bunch of crappy mutants run into gunfire? Why not just DROP THE BRIDGE ONTO THE FACILITY? To start out, I am a true comic geek and I have been an X-Men fan for a long while. While in high school, I frequented the local comic book shop so often, I was given a part time job there! I worked there and two other jobs to get through college, so I have been able to read the many of the stories of the X-Men. I ready a response earlier basically stating that comic book collectors were being shallow and picky about the X-Men movies and unfortunately, I must agree. All comic book story lines change and evolve (or devolve) based on the "new" writing and artistic teams. This is found in Batman, Superman, The Punisher (who worked for angels in one incarnation), daredevil, the avengers, captain america (what was with the electric shield and black and red uniform?) and yes even the X-men are at the whim of new writers! Let's face it, currently; there are about 4 different X-men titles, all with differing stories. (This is actually less titles than in the early 90's when the X books began to peak, lest we forget Cable and his X-force!) True, most writers try to keep the essence of the X-Men, but they do so liberally, after all, there is not really an overall X-Men story driving all of the books, just a concept. As fans, we should be happy that someone spent millions to bring to life some of our favorite characters vs. constantly complaining about who was left out, who was not fully developed or who was related in the comic books, but not mentioned as families in the movie (i.e. professor X and juggernaut were related, but this was not mentioned in the movie.) Perhaps my years are starting to show, but these movies are an interpretation of decades of X-Men history! Frankly, I liked the Marc Silvestri/ Jim Lee story lines as much as I liked the John Byrne years (Days of Future Present was and excellent story). Bottom line, we get to see our characters, some of them at least, come to life. Let's be realistic, the original dark phoenix saga happened in space when an alien race ship picked up her using the phoenix force and determined that her power was too dangerous and needed to be eliminated. George Lucas would have a problem bring that story to life! I am going to get off of my soap box now, but I only want us to be a little lest picky and a little more grateful.

The movie was ok if you weren't a fan of the comics. It delivered a shole lot of stuff. It had great special effects,no doubt, some of the best. It had some great fighting (except the horribly un-realistic wolvie in teh woods one) And Ian/Famke pulled off their parts excellent. Ian makes me LOVE Magneto. As far as action goes it's great too. And even Halle finally started to seem more Storm like.
The issues with the movie,IMO:
The story was fast paced with no real flow too it. I love a good non-stop in your facer, but the movie just seemed a little rushed to me. There were alot of thrown in characters who should have really fed something to the plot (Angel was in what? 3 scenes?..I hate the character, but this was stupid to throw in) There was no real X-MEN action,it was ALL WOLVERINE ALL THE TIME. These movies should have been called "Wolverine and friends: The Trilogy". It should have focused on the team and namesake,The X-MEN...as a whole.
Little or no dialog between supporting cast.
Colos,Rogue, Just useless in this movie. And to introduce Psylock just to kill her off?...Also poor choice.
The bad guys brought more to the movie then the actual X-Team did. They had more lines, more interaction, etc etc.
All and all......I say the ACTORS played their roles AWSOME,All of them, they followed what was written for them, and made the best of it. I thought I'd laugh my ass off at Vinnie Jones, but hey,his little few one liners and facial expressions made the movie bearable. Kelsey as Beast? EXCELLENT. Callisto? AMAZING. Ben Foster? Made you reall believe he was scared of that needle. But the writting/script/plot. STUPID. It was all crap.
Simon and Zak need to stop right now before they pop out another eye sore to us fans of the books.
And yes,To hell with you all,I will bring it up.
I adore Gambit. He's a top favorite.
BUT....I'm so brutally happy after SEEING this pos that he wasn't in it. They would have screwed him up.
SAVE GAMBIT FOR X4 WHEN YOU GET SOME NEW WRITERS!!!!!
GET RID OF SIMON AND ZAK!!!!!!!!!
Thank you,and good day.

An outstanding effort, Marvel does it again! This movie had grit, heart, and pivotal action. It is a work of art/comic book pulp fiction rarely seen on the silver screen. The characters, effects, and story were all beyond great. Director Brett Ratner picks right up where Bryan Singer left off and displays an amazing vision. He manages to keep the story intense and flowing but all the while it builds for a great climax to this third installment. Ratner also manages to deliver a little bit of everything ranging from true emotion to bad ass comic book style slugfests. I can see why some fans of particular characters might feel slighted, however. Cyclops, Angel and Colossus fans hoping for their favorite to shine must feel disappointed. All three characters basically did nothing. Still, the rest of the cast was used remarkably well. Overall, I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this movie.

Just a few thoughts... I loved all three movies, although the first one was not as good as the other two. The only real complaint i have is that Magneto, as he was written by Chris Claremont, is my favorite character. All three movies seemed to use the Magneto from before and after Claremont, where he gives lip service to his cause but is really just an evil nutjob. As far as a possible X4, the sentinels would be great, Apocalypse would be good, I wouldn't mind seeing the Hellfire Club (although with the Dark Phoenix saga complete, whats the point) and I always thought Mr. Sinister was pretty lame. I always thought Gambit was the most overated hero ever, a ridiculous attempt to create a "cool" character who just comes off as trying too hard. I'd like to see more Nightcrawler, Colossus, Juggernaut was fun and if they are going to put more heroes in, Banshee, Forge, Havok or Polaris (somebody said Havok and Polaris were in this one, but if they were, I didn't see them). As for differences with the books and the movies, you'd have to be retarded to think that they could cram forty-three years worth of details into roughly five hours worth of movies. It would be nice to get Magneto closer to how he was from the Claremont days. Oh, and did i mention that Gambit kind of sucks?

I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT SINGER AND HIS CREW DIDN'T FOLLOW THE STORY AND A LOT OF PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF WERE PISSED OFF WHEN JEAN GREY, CYCLOPS AND PROF X DIED. THE MOVIE WAS DONE WITHIN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THAT IS WHY THE STORY IS NOT ACCURATE. IF YOU GUYS REALLY FOLLOWED THE ORIGINAL STORY OF X-MEN FROM THE COMICS, THIS MOVIE IS NOT THE END OF THE SERIES BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY VERSION OUT THERE. 20TH CENTURY FOX ALREADY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WILL BE AN X4. AND DON'T BE SUPRISE THAT JEAN GREY AND PROFESSOR X (REINCARNATED,SEE END CREDITS) WILL RETURN. JAMES MARSDEN/CYCLOPS FOR SURE WILL ALSO COME BACK WITH VENGEANCE. THE REASON WHY JAMES MARSDEN/CYCLOPS GOT A SMALLER ROLE BECAUSE HE DECIDED TO PLAY A SUPPORTING ACTOR ON "SUPERMAN RETURNS" ALSO DIRECTED BY SINGER WHICH WILL BE ON MOVIES ON JUNE 28. OBVIOUSLY SINGER RUSHED TO FINISH X3 AT THE SAME TIME WORKING ON SUPERMAN RETURNS WITH MARSDEN. THIS IS WHY MARSDEN/CYCLOPS HAD A SHORT SCREENING TIME AND THE STORY WAS NOT ACCURATE!!
EXPECT X4 ON 2008 WITH JEAN RESURECTED!!! PROF. X IN SOMEONE'S BODY AND CYCLOPS STRONGER THAN EVER (MAY BE COMING BACK FROM THE FUTURE)
DO YOU REALLY THINK CYCLOPS WAS KILLED BY DARK PHEONIX JUST LIKE THAT?? I SUSPECT THAT JEAN GREY TRANSPORTED CYCLOPS INTO THE FUTURE BEFORE HER POWER CORRUPTS HER MIND COMPLETELY!!

I think that everyone should keep in mind that this is not the 616 universe, nor is it the ultimates universe. They took charactars who were started in the 60's, and obviously they would have to do things differently, what with the costumes making it harder for people to take them seriously. And Psylocke had the power to travel through shadows courtesy of the crimson dawn. So Before you say someone doesn't have powers, make sure you know what you're talking about so you don't come out looking like a moron.

I see where Ratner was going, but I don't think he executed his vision very well. I understand that in making a comic book movie there are several essential elements that have to be cut to appeal to a broader audience, but where exactly do you draw the line? The writers of X3 basically banked on the action and special effects, there's very little flow to the story and forget about character developement. The tiny excerpts in the beginning, middle, and end involving "Angel" were ridiculous fillers. The character choices are beyond my comprehension: Quill? Psylocke? mutants not even in the books? What's the point?
I loved the first 2 movies and only dream of how Singer might've taken the third installment to the next level...alas it remains a dream.

I disagree with most of the other writers. X-Men: The Last Stand was a phenomenal movie. However, I do have my complaints.
Firstly, I do think that the movie was written a little awkwardly, because some of the traits of the characters were not right. For example, Psylocke appeared to be a mutant with the power to morph or camouflage into her surroundings, when we all know that she is a telepath who mainly uses her psychic knife. When the X-Men arrived at Alcatraz, Shadowcat and Bobby were seen jumping from the roof as Shadowcat used her powers to phase into the ground. That ability was not necessary because Shadowcat can walk on air. These were not the only problems in the movie.
Secondly, the plot of the story could have been tweaked a bit to allow for a more sensible ending. When the Phoenix asked Logan to "Save her" near the end of the film, he stabbed her. That actually happened, but that was after the third or fourth time she died. Jean should have, in my opinion, materialized herself, since she did so after her first Phoenix encounter. While materializing herself, she should have reversed all of the murders she committed while she was the Phoenix (or at least Scott, the Professor, and the Blackbird Jet). This would have provided grounds for a fourth movie (which was talked about above), or left a sensible ending for the last movie.
While watching you couldn't take your eyes off of the movie. There were a lot of things that left curiosity for the fourth movie:
1. The ending scene when the chess piece wiggled just a little while Magneto was holding his hand over it.
2. What would happen to the Mutants who had their powers removed (Mystique, Rogue, etc.).
3. Professor Xavier and Cyclops lived on long past Jean.

Let me ask this diehard X-men fans. Do you think part 1& 2 were based off the comics? Hell nah! So how you think part 3 is just going to jump up and follow the comic? Not alot of comic movies follow the comics anyway. Name more than 5 movies that did so and holla back. Once Bryan fucked up the first two what you think Bret could do! I like the movies as they are even though the money they had to make the first one was not enough so you can't blame Bryan too much. Movies cost money, so if it does not have a big enough budget it might not be just as your dreams predicted, but the more movies they bring out the more money they make and the better they become! Who knows in the future we might see a firebird from the Phoenix. Regardless the movie was great and it was better than the first 2 in my opinion, no doubt! Not enough action in the first two for a X-Men movie! I just hope the DVD has extra things that please these kids so they stop complaining! Compared to any other comic movie this is like the coolest one. Even though I think Bryan is going to do a great job with Superman, he has more than enough money for this one! Thats we he traded on the X-Men but thaats cool, Phoenix will murder the man of steel I don't care how good the movie is.

All I have to tell you X-Fans out there is READ THE MOVIE NOVEL BY CHRIS CLAREMONT! There are so many things about the movie that the book really details alot of! For example: Jean has a daydream and sees several different universes/realities of herself. She sees her and Scott with a daughter! She sees herself wearing black leather and a member of a hellfire club! She even sees herself wearing that classic green and yellow skirt outfit! Also, there is an introduction to several "New Mutants" (hint hint) in the Epilogue with Wolverine and Storm starting up another Danger Room session. (hint: one of them is a blonde boy with a Kentucky accent named Sam Guthrie and another is a dark cajun who has a deck of cards and eyes so red they seem to glow in the darkness) What people are forgetting about the ending with Dark Phoenix fighting Wolverine is that Jean was STILL ALIVE IN THERE! She led Logan to her and continually asked him to save her and end it all. Jean knew his healing factor would give him time to get close as long as she fought the inner battle and held the Dark Phoenix back just long enough. Unfortunately for us the fans and viewers, we really had to pay attention to see all of this in the movie. Once again, READ THE NOVEL! You won't regret paying the $5, trust me. As for an X4, let's concentrate on the Wolverine movie... It will be very interesting to see them outline the 'ol Cannucklehead's life and all the many different people in it. Wolverine is the 'Kevin Bacon' of the Marvel world remember! I don't know of any character out there who can not be linked back to him.

As far as this movie was, I was good but not great. The entire thing felt rushed and needed another half hour to flesh out the characters. I know I'm being picky but Collosus had more lines in the last film, and I know scheduling conflicts prevented it, but it would have been great for Cyclops and Jean to die together.
Just an idea but what about introducing the Legacy virus in the next film. Mutants that took the cure start to find that not only are their powers reemerging, but they all seemed to have contracted a disease that is slowly killing off the mutant race. Magneto could insist this was mankinds plan all along and there you go, instant conflict.

And as far as the comics i view them as a seprate univers.
And why not the comics themselves are a multi-vers.

Here is the IMPORTANT POINT YOU ARE ALL FORGETTING.
You have X-MEN comics which all have their own series of particular storylines. This is an X-MEN MOVIE, yes MOVIE which like another X-MEN series has its own storyline. No doubt it must relate at some level with the comic books, but this franchise has always been intended to be another SERIES specific to the world of MOVIE MAGIC. Think about the X-MEN EVOLUTION cartoon and take some understanding at the fact that it is also nothing like the comic book.
HOW CAN ALL YOU HARDCORE X-MEN FANS BITCH ABOUT THE FILM NOT FOLLOWING THE COMIC BOOK AND NOT USE YOUR SUPPOSED SUPERIOR X-MEN INTELLECT AND REALISE THIS FACT?
The film itself has a MISSION to portray based on its own take on the X-MEN saga and the FACT is that this film has been intended to be the LAST film in the MOVIE series. So a story as complex as this has had to go out with a bang in the realistic timeframe of a MOVIE and end the saga the way the director wanted it to end in whatever way he pleased becuase it was his own continuation of the MOVIE saga of the X-MEN franchise.
Read the key word you so X-MEN FANS - ITS THE MOVIE SERIES and not the COMIC BOOK SERIES! So watch it asthough it is a new saga of the X-MEN specific to the medium of MOVIES.
This is the movie to finally see what mutants vs mutants can do (and if they had more funding they could have made it even better but i shudder in excitment to think of what that would look like) in action scenes which are great to watch. In the MOVIE SAGA Wolverine is seen as the leader of the X-MEN and he continues to show us that he has what it takes to lead the X-MEN and the director does not hold back at all with him in this film. There are some SHOCKING bits in the movie which i will not spoil for you but you will be amazed at the direct approach of the X-MEN MOVIE SAGA. Yes, due to the traditional timeframe and intention of this film being the last, it had to allow for this film to not have alot of character development for each new mutant introduced. That is simply not possible and it is not really needed because as it is the last part in the trilogy this movie has to focus on those mutants who carried the first two movies, WHICH IT DID! GO WATCH THE MOVIE for the fact that it is the ending of the X-MEN MOVIE SAGA and you will enjoy it for the fact that it ends it with a BANG!
If they do decide to make X-MEN 4 (and they should) then the character devlopment can continue upon the aftermath of this movie and all i know is that MR SINISTER will be the one to ressurrect the star-crossed lovers and more besides.
I also cannot wait for the DVD release which iam sure will have extended footage not used in the movie for all those little bits which made the story progress a little fast at times, well atleast i hope there will be.
That is HAX fact for you all.

PS: I must add my vote in to say that I thought the Phoenix without the fire-energies was awful. And it REALLY REALLY got on my wick that Wolverine could so easily walk up to the Phoenix and stab her! She could easily use a telpathic blat to kill him or put him in a coma! Wolverine is soooo overated - although I think Hugh Jackman portrays him well.

I enjoyed the film and would love to see an X-Men 4! I would like Psylocke to be introduced for her true self - a British Lady and not just Magneto's lackey. She is a favourite of us Brits. I know she was obliteratd by the Dark Phoenix - but think that she should use her telepathy to catch on to the same comatose mind Xavier is using. (As seen after the credits). They could then slightly augment the traditional Hand bodyswitch. I thought it was rubbish that Colossus had an American accent, the comic-book versions accentual inflection added to his vuldnerable character, and add in Jubes!!!!

Jesus people... to those here that are actually upset that the movie did not follow the comics word for word, grow up. There is a wider audience a movie company has to hit with a film that cost millions of dollars and way too many hands in the cookie jar. The writers, director and crew have a limited time to tell a story about alot of people... some of the expectations here are unrealistic, if any of the haters think you can make a better movie, have at it chumps. It's tought to make a flick at the level these movie's have been made at and I personally think both Ratner and Singer did a fine job bringing the x-men spirit into the films.

Ok im a huge movie buff in general and have been an x-men fan since 6 years old will there be an X4 im'm sure of it even if it is a new mutants movie i mean the movie broke 2 records as far as cash flow in the first weekend. Now in regards to X4 lets be realistic they can't fit another 12 x-men into the movies there's no way i say they introduce a couple new x-men like Gambit and maybe Dazzler or Emma Frost, then develope on remaining x-men like rogue, kitty, angel, jubilee or even siren (the little girl who screamed in X2and nearly shattered the special ops guy's eardrums)they have so much material allready from the past three they dont need to bring in a slew of new mutant's i mean the sheerly amazing acting abilities of anna paquin can carry a movie alone imagine further devlopement on Rogue alone the potential is endless. One thing that would have been interesting was to develope that storm is in fact at least a level four mutant if not omega level (level 5 for those of you that aren't comic dorks like me ) and see Storm "Take a stand" against jean. Otherwise X-men 3 other then bein a little cramped because of the running time was amazing yes they changed a couple things from the comics like juggs but only because explaining where his powers originate from could be a movie in itself oh and even if not getting her comic powers from Ms.Marvel in this movie rogue did deserve more screen time this movie affected her immensely and if she could have gotten close enough could have taken on jean herself any comments for me on my thoughts let me know on my myspace my space dot com back slash homosexualityisthedevil

I'm not going to tell you how old I am, but, Magneto is my favorite X character of all time! Not only because I can bend metals with my mind, but, because we look to be of about the same age and it is really refreshing to see mature individuals portrayed as competent and mature. Even Framke (LUSCIOUS) was allowed to appear as being a mature individual. WOW!

Good action flick, bad comic book adaptation. At least (both) Punisher movies were just bad movies and I did not have ANY hope that they would be good. I cannot believe that Marvel actually let this go this way. Then again, maybe the whole movie was a training exercise.....I can only hope. If they wanted to kill off people, at least they could've done Halle Berry in....she's not going to be in any sequel anyway.

The movie was great......for what it was. While I whole heartedly agree that the movie was good, I felt they could have done more. The Phoenix with no Phoenix Effect? Her making the water rise? She's a creature of fire, not water! Killing off main characters in the first 1/2 hr and key mutants losing their powers? I know anything can happen in the X universe but I do hope that if X4 is to come out, it's not a "cheesy" storyline and everyone ends up with alive and with their powers back. I peronsally believe the movie could have been ALOT more then what it was and they should have added some more "flair" to the Phoenix portions of the story. Poor Famke looked like a drunken puppet for most of the movie just standing around and for the exception of a few scenes, did nothing. I just hope that if X4 is to be released, they keep these suggestions in mind.

Movie was pretty decent. I know Cylops is the X-men team leader but was glad to see his whiny self go. VERY glad Gambit was absent certainly better characters could come in,such as another appearance by Nightcrawler or Sabertooth. The major complaint is that they tried cramming too much as far as major changes, supposedly killing Xavier and Cyclops and Magneto along with Mystique losing their power was all too much to swallow in one movie. Also how about a reference to Juggernaut being Xaviers half brother....most people dont know that. Next X-men must have Apocolypse or the Sentinels its time

I'm not a hard core X-Men comic fan, and I enjoyed the movie. A few stupid things though. 1. There's no way Wolverine could have walked up to Jean to kill her. They should have used Leech or Rogue to weaken her, then have that wonderfully Shakespearian moment of Wolverin killing the woman he loves.
2. When you show a group of 50 mutants (Magneto's army), spend a little money and throw in some CG! I know they were class 1 to 3 mutants (which I don't remember the movies using before), but come on! They looked like a low budget crowd from Beyond Thunderdome. Put in some tails or wings or something with computers. They could have had so much fun with it, but instead they were just a bunch of wierd looking actors in black leather. Stupid. I guess a class 1 to 3 mutants means "low budget extra". 3. I didn' tmind that they killed Cyclops. James Marsden is boring and so is Cyclops. I'm sure they'll bring him back anyway. Yawn.... Kinda missed Night Crawler. Kinda hate that Collusus has an American accnet instead of Russian. OK 4. So Magneto, Xavier and thier teams show up a Jean Greys house all together and all that is said is "What the Hell are you doing here?" by Wolverine. Your arch enemy from the last 2 movies shows up
and there's no tension, not even claws snitking out? Magneto didn't even need to
be in that scene. 5. Kelsey Grammer was a fine choice, but here's an actor with great comedic skills, struggling through poorly written humour. He has a bit too much camera time and it takes away from the shock value of seeing him. They should have handled it better. More subtle, less Cookie Monster lighting. Angel story was nice and tidy. Didn't mind it. OVERALL I'm getting a bit tired of the whole racism analogy. They firmly established that in the firt two films, and although it;s wirth keeping alive, the plot of this movie was just a re-hash of the first movie where Magneto had a weapon that could turn humans in mutants.
The relationship developments remained pretty compelling, not badly written and
the actors know their soap operas by now. Oh and Gambit sucks. Isn't he the mutant whose power is throwing playing cards or something super gay like that?

So i saw the movie twice, the first time I liked it but was left a little shocked from the supposed deaths in the movie. The second time around was much better, it was very well done and while I might have chosen some different routs to go it was still a great movie.
As far as my complaints go, it should have been longer.
There should have been more time given to Cyclops because James is such a good actor and Cyclops is awesome however James did choose to do Superman, Rogue was robbed...when is she going to be the Rogue we know in the comics, with the power to fly and super strength? Storm was much better this time out, Halle did a great job, however I wish we could have seen her take lead in a more obvious way, Storm of the comics leads with grace, wisdom, and compasion but is also very strong in her convictions in what she believes and we saw more of that from her but i think they could do more yet. There were also parts where they should have had Storm step up instead of Wolverine, For instants when Wolverine is telling the team to form a line and not to break it.. that should have been Storms role & line. Come on writters let Storm step up. All in all though it was very good.
Some things to remember, we never did see what happened to Scott. The same thing that happened to Xavier may not have happened to Scott and we know that Xavier found a way back and Phoenix will return. X-Men 3 the last stand broke records at the box office making over 121,000,000 in the us alone over the weekend! So here's to X-MEN 4, can't wait!!!

The more I think on it, I am actually suprised by the handling of the final showdown between Wolverine and Dark Phoenix. The whole movie seemed to be leading up to the fact that Dark Phoenix was an uber-mutant who could destroy THE WORLD. We saw her molecularly DISINTEGRATE people she wanted dead...and yet Wolverine just repairs himself as he approaches?
What is truly sad about that is they had the tools to make it more believable AT THEIR FEET. LEECH was only a few feet away...they established he was a CURE in range...it seemed they should have used HIM to incapacitate phoeniz long enough for WOlverine to make his approach (Since it should have been impossible if she could molecularly disintegrate matter with a thought?). Or if not Leech...wouldnt ROGUE have been useful there? weaken her long enough to let Wolverine say his peace and do his deeds?
Having a Mutant who by their own admission is one of the weaker powerwise...walk up and kill Dark Phoenix IGNORING her attacks to do it...seemd unbelievable...and they so easily could have made it believable.
Tie up loose ends in the next one AVI...whoever you get to direct. We your adience (Not just Comic fans) arent stupid, logic and believability is important to us. A few little touches here and there are the difference between bad, good, great, or even TIMELESS.

It was a great movie. A little fast-paced, and I was minorly disappointed but all in all it was a job well done! What the fuck do people expect from a first time director, directing a movie that has been so heavily criticsed in the past? My advice to people who aren't X-men fans but want to see the movie: Ignore all the assholes who say it was a shit movie, because that is far from the truth. People like to bitch. Humans are fuck-ups. They are never happy or pleased, and if they are it is only for a limited time. Go see the movie, and give your verdict.
The big battle was a great achievement, only problem was, if you closed your eyelids for more than a split second, you could easily miss something being blown up, or hurled across the screen. Wolverine was given too much screentime (again) Storm was a little....off. But Halle is hot, and Storm is my favourite character, so alls well I say! I'm glad Cyclops was killed off early. If he had of surivided he may have succumbed to the power of the Phoenix, and tried to obliterate one of the X-men. I liked the fact Rogue took the cure, and liked the fact that Magneto was "forced" to take the cure. Magneto is such a patriotic fool, but McKellen played him stunningly as usual. Patrick Stewart was excellent too, but I missed him when all the action was going on.
So all in all, great movie. Worth every penny. X3- The Last Stand definetley has my vote!

I enjoyed the movie, but was disappointed with the death of Cyclops I mean this guy is the premier strategist and leader of the X-Men and I felt he was treated poorly, Colossus definitely should have fought with Juggy, How do you not have the firebird on Dark Phoenix when powered up wsith technology where it is it shopuld have been done. I'm glad that Storm had more to do in this flick but she kicks Callisto's ass in the comics, and the fact the they gave Callisto Caliban's power was stupid, also Callisto has good fighting skills, she is not a speedster. I thought Kelsey Grammer was well cast as Beast, but how could they not use Angel more this is a guy that flys on his own power, a man with wings, he was wasted, and I don't understand everyones obbsession with Gambit, in my opinion he is minor and a crap character to begin with I don't want to see him in an X-Men movie at all. How do you make Psylocke an evil mutant and kill her in the first movie, I love the X-Men comics and love the characters for the most part and wish the movies were a little closer to what is in the comics. There is no reason some of the stuff like the Shi'ar and the brood or any of the other characters like Apocalypse couldn't be used in the future, this is the movies and anything should be possible.

When I first saw it, I thought it was pretty good...upon relfection however, this film is a "quicky". Too much information trying to be put into something that should be 130 minutes or so, not 100. It seems rushed at times, and yes...dialogue was "painful" at times. Here are a few zingers from our president "God help us all" "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"...wow, I have never heard either of those lines before, cmon. Here's a great one from Wolverine "Sometimes when you cage the beast, the beast gets angrty"...hehe, wtf! And yes, get Halle Berry the shit out! That dumb big headed bitch think she's all that, and because she got others to think along with her, we had to watch her get her ass kicked up and down the street, which wasn't entertaining, and speak garbled sentences for much of the movie. OK, you have a "decent" rack, thats all! You can't act, so stay away from movies, comic book movies too, forever...all of them! Juggernaut was a big dissapointment. His helmet did look like a penis, I mean did they keep it that way just so Kitty could call him such? I think Vinnie did a decent job, a couple of humorous lines from him that now seem a little over top due to numerous bad dialogue. Juggernaut is unstoppale, and they make him break through some walls to so such, cmon. The fight with Wolverine was entertaining, but why not get more "GOOD" action at the end. Show Juggernaut and Collosus fight, I mean he barely got any action! Overall, I could rant all day, but I still don't believe the movie was horrible, just mediocre. I was excited at first, but wore off rather quickly. Now, all I can do is sit back and reflect what could have been, and what never should have been...

Overall I wasnt disappointed. The action was so heavy at the end it was hard to BLINK and not miss fireworks! But if I had any complaints it would be: 1-Kelsey Grammar as BEAST was a little to STOIC and tied down. A slightly more tongue in cheek approach would have fit the comic version better AND been more fun (At least throw in 1 or 2 of his never ending sarcastic literary quotes thrown at Wolverine to show off the brain vs brawn approach he so preferred). That would have really lightened the character better. 2-Cyclops EARNED a better death. Even if they killed him off camera to allow the possibility of a later return...still, he was one of the few PRIMARY characters the movies have had (Since the 1st 2 movies worked with such a trimmed down list of available mutants). Based on that alone (Not even on comic history, just movie history) the audience DESERVED to see a more noble or at least dramatic exit for one of the few XMEN we have known. Let him go down fighting! Or at least, if he must die tragically chasing the changed woman he loved...let is SEE his PAIN and mourn his last tearful moments as his love begets his doom. I felt they TRULY dropped the ball and cheated comic AND movie fans out of one of their "heroes" being credited in his loss. He had a full movie lyfe, he earned at least a recognized death.
Finally, they overdid the last stand bit. Every mutant that appeared joins magneto against 3 experienced Xmen and some kids still learning? I was frankly shocked they didnt give the XMEN at least some help to make such a fight more believable numerically. They were outgunned 20-1 and still held their own (Albeit with a fair help from the cure guns). Gambit would have been a NICE addition to balance the odds some (Or at least Angel doing more than catch his dad and leave? HELPING the Xmen since he actually was one of Xaviers 1st students so it would have fit perfectly). Even Jubilee blowing stuff up maybe? I accept that they cant have every mutant from the comics. Thats too many characters to flesh out and develop and not enough tyme in a 2 hour flick. OK, so Magneto is head baddie and no Apocalypse...Im FINE with that as they developed that angle very well for 3 movies. But I suppose they needed more balance to make it feel more solid.
Finally, Singer was mainly missed by me for the EMOTION. The action in X3 was actually the best so far. That never was SIngers best work in 1 & 2, his CHARACTERS and personal emotional development effort is what made the movies work. Ratner I think did superior action timing and shooting...but the death of Dr X was handled badly. The expression and delivery...the making of a formerly confident commanding Dr. X to be a flailing old teacher HOPING he could talk Jean out of Phoenix...it seemed like a different person than SIngers Dr X.
But Ill see it again. I just hope they learn from mistakes or at leastm consider other options if there IS a sequel.

Loved the movie. Brett thanks for a wonderful job, and I am just waiting for the DVD. I went Sunday the opening week and I am going again this Saturday. In the next film please have Storm fly normally and let Angel get in some fighting training with Wolverine and the younger X-Men. Get Colossus more speaking parts so we can see just who Colossus is. Rogue we are eagerly anticipating what her rise to getting her powers will be. The 4th film would be a good debut for Emma Frost and of course Banshe where Dr. Moria McTaggert is attending to Xavier. X-4 could be so awesome. I don't want to say add Sentinels in the fourth film, as it will be too much, but introduce maybe Mr. Sinister and his horde to replace the Magneto Brotherhood. They are interesting and fierce fighters. Sinister could actually be an alien from space who has been on Earth some time hiding in the shadows waiting to strike. I hope the fourth film lets Storm be even more powerful in her mutant display of abilities. If Halle doesn't come back, then I hope a good actress is selected. If actress/entrepenuer/model Iman was younger she could have been an ideal Storm. The height, the voice, the demeanor was dead on and she like Storm is from Somalia. Maybe if you cast someone from the region of Somalia, you can find a alternative to Halle. I would hate for Halle not to return, but if she is ready to hang up her cape, then I know she knows what she is doing. Thanks Halle for all the committment and striving to get Storm the recognition she deserved. Who knows, maybe Halle will be Storm in a Spiderman movie. Or in Fantastic Four.

I thought The Last Stand was terrific. I think Brett Ratner did a great job as were the talented stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Famke Jansenn who put there very being in to the story to make it a success. Of course when old friends die we are sorry but welcome news friends and this is how mutants feel - they work as a team together. I was sorry to lose Cyclops so soon. Wolverine and Pheonix certainly made me sit up - some passion, but he knew early on if he could not help his lovely Jean he would have to kill her for her own sake and mankind. Well that lead to tears for them both and plenty of emotion.
The final battle lead by Wolverine was terrific and they way he duped Magneto into thinking he was coming in for the kill was prize.
The action scenes and the stunts, the Golden Gate Bridge were stunning.
Dislikes very few - Juggernaut did not work for me. Halle had a much larger role and although she went through the action her voice did not command your attention and this showed up particulary when she was with Wolverine. The ending was excellent - was Magneto regaining power ..........and the clip after the credits - well I did not expect that.
So if the fans want an X4 the door has been left open. Personally if Wolverine is not there a lot of the power would go. Congratulations to all the stars, crew, special effects and Brett Ratner for havine the courage of his convictions.

I think that X-Men 3 The Last Stand was an amazing movie. Some people just expect SO MUCH and you can only really expect a certain amount from a movie. Do you want the film to be several hours long? Then you will just complain even more!! So I thought that X3 was really well done, lots of action, lots of characters. If there is an X4 that would make my day, I LOVE X-Men!! And yes go farther with Rogue cause she has other powers that she acquires from another mutant. Keep them coming!

2. When Juggernaut was knocked out cold from hitting the wall next to leech I thought there was going to be a riot! Hello Magic, not mutant!
The last 20 minutes saved that film!

Way I see it if your new to the universe and were introduced to the characters then X3 is a good watch in terms of an end to the trilogy, Granted it`s not a great film as a stand alone effort but it still has one or two suprises for that audience, However if you are a Hardcore fan and grew up with the cartoons comic video games like I have then this movie was only ever going to be a dissapiontment, I`m sure that there could off been many ways to have done things in a different direction and made a better movie as I felt shortchanged I hope that there is another X4 if it`s handled well by the right people with a love for the scourse material but the way things are its DONE leave it be

I loved the film. Do I issues with it? Yes... just like I do with all films. But do I let the film makers follow their vision? Heck yeah. (I'm not a director.) I would have loved to see the "firebird" effect around Phoenix at least once. I would like to know if Scott is dead or alive. (Those who sat through the credits now know that Professor X is alive... kinda.)
I love how the "cure" wasn't successful. To me, Wolverine isn't the #1 X-Man, but he is a fan favorite and quite bank-able. Beast and Nightcrawler have always been my favorites, and it was nice to see both in the films... but also a shame neither were not used to their potential. Hopefully, we'll see more of them in future X-Men films.
I loved seeing both Stan Lee and Chris Claremont living in the same neighborhood, too. Yep. I love the movie. I think X-Men United was better, but hey... it's hard to top X2.

X-Men : The Last Stand is a movie worth watching. I believe they could have added more to the story for it to be over two hours long. But it still was a great film! Perhaps this is the beginning of a long X-Men franchise, like the Star Wars movies. I heard a long time ago that superstar actor Jean-Claude Van Damme would be playing Gambit but it is unlikely he will take the part. I would also love see the Sentinals in action and...will Apocalypse ever be the next villain? or will it always be Magneto? Apocalypse will be Incredible if they ever put him in. I wonder if they make X-Men 4 who will the director be...Brian Singer or Brett Ratner??..

I think that the X-men film was amazing, i had some minor doubts that the film was going to be messed up with the changing of directors all the time. I loved Famke Jansen- she really knows how to act as both Jean in X2 and difinetly in X3.. i love her..and i hope thats shes back for X4,5, and 6 if they get that far. Storm had a lot more to do shes was good but i think she needed to do a bit more.. like combining her abilitles like lightning and wind.. together.. Definitly expectcing an X4.. it would be silly not to..the moneys rollin in.. and since its based on the comics there shouldnt be any need for them to stop.. Superman got to the Fourth movie.. starwars has 6..cant wait for them to put gambit in.. and do something to make rogue fly and have super strength..and make Iceman slide. 10/10 for X-men 3

I just wish they would clearly use a team uniform. It was better in X3 than X2. People I saw X2 with couldn't tell the good guys from the bad. The CB movies always leave out the reason for hiding ones identity under a mask. The reason for a mask it to hide from villians & the News media that way they can try to lead a normal life when not fighting crime.

Best of the three. Seriously. Screw continuity, the first two films ignored the comics so why should the third follow them? The web seems populated purely by Ratner-hating, Singer-hugging fanboys who forget just how much Singer meddled with things himself. The people who enjoyed X3 won't come and bitch online, they just go again. It's making money because it's a fun film - slavishly following comic books does not a good movie make. Go buy the cartoon DVD boxset or something if you wan't closer adaptations. These people saying it's 'ruined the X-Men' for them need to seriously grow up. The original Phoenix saga would have alienated most of the cinema-going public. You guys are the same people who're probably whining over the fact that Megatron's not going to be a gun in the new movie. Honestly...

Hey Lisa from New York, Why do you think the comic world has spin off,s huh? It's because some of the main players are so popular that a spin off was needed in order to expand and develop their own stories. Why should the movie world not do the same. Wolverine has had a very sucseful spin off comic since the 80's whilest other character spin offs fail. It's because of the popularity of Logan that the films took off anyway. Do you think that if he had not had so much to do with the first film that it would still have been the blockbuster it was and have spawned a trilogy. NO! a great many new X-fans were created at that time because of Wolverine and Hugh's fantastic protrayal of him. Allow other x-men screen time yes but don't say drop Wolvies involvement or spin off.

There should be an X4, theres still a lot of story arcs to go to. Like the mutant registration act, the legacy virus, and the attack on genosha. They haven't even introduced some of the most interesting characters... like Polaris, Emma Frost, or the Acolytes. And if ever they are "finaly" including Gambit, I think he should be a villain, working for Sinister or something. It makes the character more fascinating.

I think there should be an x4 because x-men is da bomb and don't listen to that mister frost jackass halle is great bring her back she did great, and I also think that x4 should have the story involving the rise of apocalypse and the return of Pheonix, Scott and the prof. And they should show Storm using her power to the fullist and the characters that took the cure get there powers back. Plus Storm and Pheonix need to fight thow none of those to should die, and all of the x-men should combine there powers to stop the Pheonix after Storm weakens her, but that should happen the first half of the movie then start the rise of apocalypse with the x-men fighting together and with Jean back with them and in control of her power.Plus they should have armies of sentinals like in the comis and cartoons. And all the x-men should use there powers to the max.

good to hear that another sequal is a possibility, why does hollywood only work in 3's? anyways, i could see a sequal with sinister creating the horsmen for apocalypse which could bring back jean and Scott - and maybe an all out final battle with apocalypse and Onslought - show some unity with prof-x and maggi.

I think everyone saying that it isn't about following the comic book storyline is blowing shit out of their asses. Whether the movie is following the fucking storyline or not wouldn't matter to the non-comic book fans because they don't know what the fucking storyline is. They just want to see action and believe me there is a lot of action and powers in the comic books. I think the only reason Wolverine is so well liked is because he is so well known...there are way more things in the X-men franchise based around Wolverine than basically anyone else. I would say the most well liked characters aside from super main ones like Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, and Storm is Gambit so he should have been in the fucking movie. Also, did I miss Nightcrawlers death in X-2 because he was like a very important part of the story but then wasn't in X-3 at all. PLus I think if they could give such a crappy part to Angel in X-3 then they could have done at least a little with Gambit.

I will never understand the appeal of Gambit and why some people love that character. I liked X3. People who complain about discontinuity with the comics are misguided in my opinion. All thru the 90's Marvel trashed the continuity and constantly ratchedted up the power level of the X-characters to a completely unreasonable degree. Yeah, the Dark Pheonix was a badass, but later on every other character/villain had reality warping capabilities. Where's the drama in that? Besides the goal of these movies is to make the characters and stories accesible to non fans. So get a clue!

I seriously think that JONATHAN COLON from EL PASO,TX. needs to realize that everything he reads on the net is not always true. If that was/is or suppose to be the case then the online web vote over on MSN about who is your favorite character would totally blow a hole in his theory about how the people want Gambit in the movies. Wolverine got almost 4000 votes at the time I voted and there was not another single character (including Gambit) that had anywhere close to 1000. I think that most after Wolverine was 600. People like him need to realize that you can't make a comic book based movie strickly for the comic book fans. There are just not enough of you left in the world anymore. You have to also get people who have never been interested in reading comics, or have never read or even heard of the characters into the theatre too. If you need to be pissed at someone then be pissed at 20th Century Fox rather then the director that came into this production after the guy they had to replaced Singer (that I might mention they fired and told him he would never work for them because he wanted to go do Superman while the coporate execs got thier stuff together). There are really no such thing as a bad comic book movie, it's more along the lines of studios out of touch with the fan base and the characters they love.

I thought the movie was a great movie a little fast but good, i am tired of everyone complaining about how it branches off of the comics, in many interviews it is said that just about every scene comes directly from a series in the comic books, notice that i say books there is more then one series of Xmen people are just baseing most of the negativity because it does not follow the format of the television shows. Also that was said by directors is that the movie is a trilogy meaning it would have made no since to introduce a new main villian in each movie. I will return after i get back i have more to say to these basers

I think Brett did a good job with the time he had on the film. If he had started out on the film from the beginning I think it would have been better because he would have had more time. Over all, I really liked the movie. Yea, it may not follow the comic story lines or anything, but it is breathing new life into the X-Men franchise and taking a different view on what is going on in the world today. The end of the movie didn't really close the story, which is something Brett likes to do, he likes to leave everything wide open for new possibilities. Again, I think he did a wonderful job for the amount of time he had on the project.

Please can anyone agree with me that Spinoffs might destory the whole X-Men Universe?!?!??!?!? and well is a distraction to forget about the unanswered questions we all still have about what happened to numerous characters in the Last Stand?
Seriously,
Wolverine had enough screen time in all three X men movies since all of them revolve around him and his past or relationships. I mean seriously there is no logics of how Wolverine could have killed Phoenix with one stab since in Endsong he couldn't even kill her with multiple stabs. He took most of the screen time that could have been used to develop certain characters that were useless. I mean too much wolverine equals no Gambit nor Jubliee.
Magneto also was the main character in a three movies.
Actualy he was the main villian.... there could have been other villans that could have came up in the films Apcalsype for example.I mean do not want to upset anyone but I think forget the spinoffs and just focus on getting X4.... these spinoffs are just a pure gimic... just to forget about the X-Men franchise...

U SELFISH BASTARDS RUINED X-MEN FOR US DIE HARD FANS AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT TILL A GOOD DIRECTOR COMES ALONG AND PUTS IT BACK ON TRACK LIKE THEY HAD TO DO WITH BATMAN. WORD ON THE WEB IS THAT THERE WAS NO GAMBIT BECAUSE BEN AFLAC WASNT AVAILABLE TO PLAY THE PART. WELL TO HELL WITH HIM. I THINK MANY WOULD AGREE CLIVE OWEN SUTES THE PART BETTER. OR GET AN UNKNOWN ACTOR SO THERES NO CRYING ABOUT A RAISE LIKE HALLE BERRY DID. OR ATLEAST THATS ALSO WHAT THE WEB SAYS. THE ONLY RESONE THAT MOVIE MADE SO MUCH MONEY IS BECAUSE THE PEOPLE ANTICIPATED GAMBIT AND A STORY LINE ON TRACK. IF THERE IS A X4 I HOPE IT IS DIRECTED BY A MAN WHO KNOWS WHAT THE HELL X-MEN IS ABOUT AND WHERE TO GO WITH IT. AND PUT GAMBIT IN IT. THATS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. THE DIRECTOR OF THIS MOVIE IS THE GEORGE BUSH OF FILM MAKING. DOES HIS OWN THING AND DOESNT LISTEN TO THE FANS. That scene with Hugh Jackman giving the younger x-men a pep talk didn't feel right. I liked the trailers version better. All that being said I hope they do make an X4, X5,X6, X7, etc..
