Exclusive TV News: PRODUCER/WRITER MARTI NOXON TALKS FAITH THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SPIN-OFF

The writer candidly talks about the never seen series plus a desire to return to BUFFY someday

LOCATION: Buffy Redux?

THE SKINNY: Marti Noxon has a new series at ABC starting this fall called BROTHERS AND SISTERS and was on-hand at an ABC party to promote her new show.  While talking with the talented writer/producer, iF managed to find out what might have been beyond season seven for BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and some possible future plans to revisit that universe.

iF MAGAZINE: What would have happened if BUFFY had gone into an eighth season?

MARTI NOXON: Joss and I were so, so, so tired that we didn’t think about it.  I had way more ideas for the FAITH show, than I did for the BUFFY show.  That was something that was more alive for me at that point and I could see that show.  In terms of, we would have broken the model and done something new, but the BUFFY model felt so tapped out and we were so afraid of the show not staying at the level of quality that we hopefully maintained for most of the seasons.  I think that was why it was over for me because I didn’t have another thought at that moment, and Joss didn’t have another thought.  We were thinking however, "If you put Faith and Spike in a show…"

iF: How close to actually doing the FAITH series before you knew it wasn’t going to happen?

NOXON: It was a combination of things.  Eliza Dushku was committed to something else; she had just taken TRU CALLING.  She wasn’t sure she wanted to keep playing Faith, and then the series got cancelled several different times.

iF: Would you ever feel like visiting the “BUFFY-verse” again via comics perhaps?

NOXON: If I had the time and the energy I definitely would.  It would be fun to put my head back there.  Joss and I talk all the time, so you never know.  It would be nice to write with Joss again, and we all loved him.

Faith spin off would be great, but "Faith the vampire slayer" wudnt work, maybe Just Faith. Or even another title that could have something to do with the potential storylines that *Could* have been introduced to this amazing actor / character

I would love to see a Faith/Spike spinoff. Or even just Faith or just Spike. I really don't think Joss and company truly understand how alive the Buffyverse is for some of us. The possibilities of this verse are huge and the mythology is amazing and largely uncovered. Imagine...all those vampires, slayers, watchers, and even the council have their own stories that would be great television or movies. And there is a ready made fan base, all that has to be said is that Joss Whedon,Marti Noxon, David Fury, or Tim Minear is involved..and WE ARE THERE. I can understand Eliza Dushku or Sarah Michelle Gellar, or any of the actors may not wish to reprise their respective roles, but there are other stories as I said above. C'mon guys! The fans are waiting..

I am recovering Buffy Addict myself and there is so much more I would like to see from the universe. The rumors of TV movies seem to have fizzled out, but if there is still a possibility the CW will bring back the Buffy-verse in some way I'll be tuning in, and buying the DVD BoxSets!! Illyria is one of my favorite characters, and she was so short-lived. Faith could definitely support her own series, and I was so ticked at FOX for cancelling "Tru Calling" the way they did, completely unresolved and cut short. FOX makes such poor decisions, like with Dark Angel is was completely the time slot that ruined that show, it kept getting pushed back due to sports because it was on Friday Night, so people weren't sitting at home waiting for the game to get over to see their show at some Random Time. Anyways, yeah, if anybody out there is reading this, we need more Buffy. Even without SMG, the show could support itself with it's strong supporting cast!

I love Eliza and Faith, if they did "Faith" and put Spike in it I would still watch it but putting Spike in it would be a BIG BAD IDEA

Gee, Faith the abuse victim. Turning Faith from a sassy, tough woman into a simpering victim of Spike and his manipulative abuses. Thank god that never happened.

I have been a fan of Faith's since she appered in the show Buffy. I wished they tried to bring the show Faith alive and wish like the guy's like tim who i thiked written or help to produce buffy and angel anyways they need to faith the vampire slayer and get eliza dusku in it because that would be really cool. my story for faith is that she doesn't really know where she belongs in the world like her mother was a drinker and her father well i made up he ran out on faith when she was young so she doesn't really know who he was! and that faith found a city BOSTON where she protects the innocent. Faith really doesn't know what love is that when people try to show her she kind of rejects it and basically she is trying to find who she really is like in her past i feel she maybe got raped as she said to angel in one of the buffy episodes "won't try anythink" maybe some one raped her show her the wrong way of life the way she acted in buffy and angel. maybe Faith could have a brother she meets up in the faith series who knows and maybe her dad too? but the whole point of a faith series is she protects the world from vampires while trying to find the real her so maybe there could be memoryflashes from her past as a teenager showing the bad stuff happening to her and why she turned out thye way she did. my whole thieory to faith is the mayor showed her love so maybe thats why she went bad she only wanted to be wanted and buffy and friends never really show her that even the whole buffy and faith relationhip between them ok people might not have seen it but i did faith was always worried about buffy and what she does and well buffy ditched her friends for faith there was somethink going on? well thats all i have to say6 Faith rules always will she is better than buffy. my site of eliza dushku is www.freewebs.com/five_by_5

I don't care who it is... Willow, Spike, Faith, Illyria, etc.. etc.. etc... I just want more stories in this universe. Preferrably on television. Its been far too long since Angel ended and I am going through serious withdrawal.
