'DARK KNIGHT' FILMING CONTINUES IN CHICAGO

Armored division descends on noontime crowds

LOCATION: Chicago, IL

THE SKINNY
: Office workers and tourists out braving the oppressive humidity to hunt down lunch in Chicago’s Loop on Wednesday were rather startled to find that truckloads of soldiers – along with several squad cars marked “Gotham City Police” - had commandeered the Wabash Avenue bridge and were deploying a special robot in an attempt to defuse a bomb.

The troops, along with an army of technicians and cameras, returned to Chicago to shoot more footage this week for the upcoming Batman sequel THE DARK KNIGHT.

Film crews usually shoot in such busy areas at night and on less busy hours of weekends, but the DARK KNIGHT crew set up shop at midday to take advantage of the genuine heavy traffic and strolling onlookers. Production Assistants didn’t have to try to control the public because, well, people will react about the same watching a movie being made as they will if watching a real robot defusing a bomb. A helicopter was also deployed to buzz around the nearby Trump Tower construction site, and whatever needed to be filmed was completed within a few hours.

Rumor has it that the film company has rented a condo nearby for shooting, and that other footage has been shot in and around the historic Chicago Theater and other locations around the city.

Principal filming took place in Chicago for DARK KNIGHT a few months ago, then moved on to New York. Filming in more than one city is intended to give Gotham City an authentic yet distinctive flavor on screen, not belonging necessarily to any known city but still looking real.

Chicago natives shouldn’t be surprised if they come across the Batpod while cruising around late at night.
