THE SKINNY: After playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the BATMAN movie THE DARK KNIGHT (which he promoted this weekend at the press junket), actor Aaron Eckhart admits he wouldn’t be averse to stepping into tights for a super-hero who could call his own.
“Is it for me?” says Eckhart with a smile. “Are you nuts. I want my piece.”
While rumors have been flying that Eckhart would be a perfect CAPTAIN AMERICA, the actor admits there haven’t been any talks for him to take that classic Marvel character mantle. In fact, Eckhart admits he’s pretty oblivious to any superheroes remaining in his age bracket.
“I don’t know, I’m getting older – I don’t know if there are any old superheroes,” he admits. When he’s reminded of Robert Downey Jr. in IRON MAN, Eckhart smiles once again.
“That’s true, bastard,” he says with a laugh.
Ultimately for Eckhart, it’s the right script that would give him the impetus to star in another superhero adaptation.
“I would, because they’re fun to do,” says Eckhart. “I had fun doing this movie. I like action in general. I like to run around and be on cool motorcycles. I always get a tinge of jealousy when I see it and I’m not in it. I don’t know what’s left. It would have to be a good script and a good director. These movies work are as good as these directors and I think [THE DARK KNIGHT director ] Chris [Nolan] is a special guy, a special director. I think when all is said and done, he’ll be one of the greats. To work on so many levels on action, comic and dramatically and thematically and I don’t know if anyone could have done what he did.”
As far as his favorite heroes growing up, Eckhart admits he always liked Batman and Superman and used to watch them when he woke up on Saturday mornings. But there was one D.C. hero he also really dug – The Green Lantern.
“I’ve forgotten his characteristics and what he does, but I remember liking the Green Lantern a lot,” adds Eckhart.”
Paging Hal Jordan anyone?
