Even though I thought this season was off to a slow start, ‘Kindred’ has re-established HEROES at the same multiple character pacing that made it work so brilliantly in the first season. The first couple of episodes focused mainly on the Claire Bennet storyline and the Hiro storyline. Sure we had the satellite story of Mohinder and Matt Parkman in N.Y., which tied in to Claire’s story. We also have the new hero Maya, or is she really a hero? Her ability is something that she is willing to use to kill with if it means helping her brother.
Sylar is back. That is one of the biggest and most important things about this new episode. He isn’t healed, and doesn’t have any access to his abilities. He also seems to be located in the middle of a jungle, or possibly an island? Is anyone surprised that our reality bending bad girl turned out to be heavyset when all illusions were gone? They set that up last season by commenting on how much she was eating.
Micha and Niki were back, but DL was not. Sadness that Leonard Roberts will not be back, at least not in the traditional way of thinking, but it was absolutely genius inspired casting to bring Nichelle Nichols in as his mother. I figure since the writing team is such huge STAR TREK fans, they had to have at least one TREK cast member on the show and they killed off George Takei.
Claire had a really great scene with her new boy toy and Hayden turned in some of the best acting she has this season so far. Plus, now we’ve found out that Wes was a victim of HRG when he was less than heroic.
Of course there were more developments with Hiro in the past, so it will be interesting to see how long they leave him back there.
Peter is being tattooed with the symbol of the company and all of this ties in to the original HEROES who are being picked off one by one.
The season is picking up and I am more than intrigued at what is going to happen next. The storylines are picking up and the splitting of time amongst the various characters is a lot better. From here on in, this season should be upwards and onwards.
